About

Nick Mullins writes about tech careers, leadership, and the hard stuff nobody warned you about. Engineer turned leader. No corporate spin.

About This Site

This is where I write about the stuff that actually matters in a tech career — the conversations nobody prepares you for, the leadership mistakes that cost teams months, the career dynamics that take years to figure out on your own.

No hype. No "10x your productivity" nonsense. Just honest takes from someone who has been an awkward junior dev, a struggling new manager, and eventually someone people come to for advice.

About Me

I'm Nick Mullins. Engineering leader, author, podcast host, husband, dad, and still technically a gamer if you count 11pm sessions after everyone's asleep.

I spent the first part of my career writing code and the second part learning that writing code is the easy part. Running teams, navigating org politics, coaching people through hard situations, making calls with incomplete information — that's the actual job. I wrote Tech Leadership Made Simple because I kept giving the same advice in 1-on-1s and eventually decided to just write it down.

The Lead Don't Ctrl podcast is where I explore the same ideas out loud. If you'd rather read, you're in the right place.
