About This Site

Welcome to Mullins.io, my personal corner of the internet where I ramble about tech careers, software development, leadership, and the stuff they don’t teach you in computer science classes.

This blog isn’t here to sell you anything. There are no ads, no sponsored nonsense, and the only tracking is a basic Google Analytics tag so I can see if anyone besides my mom is reading.

Expect a mix of honest takes, battle-tested advice, and the occasional story from my career that might make you say “same,” “damn,” or “what were they thinking?”

About Me

Hi, I’m Nick Mullins — husband, father, gamer, nerd, and a technology leader who somehow went from slinging milk crates to folding strategy decks.

I broke into tech over a decade ago, starting as a junior dev with a fold-up card table and zero clue what I was doing (but trying really hard to look like I did). Since then, I’ve climbed the ladder, built and led engineering teams, and realized the secret to tech leadership is simple: you’ll never know everything — but you better know how to figure it out.

Today, I’m the Director of Loyalty Engineering at a global marketing agency by day, and an adjunct professor by night. I’ve taught everything from intro programming to game design at a local community college — and yes, some of my students have shipped actual games.

My academic background:
🎓 B.S. in Software Engineering
🎓 M.S. in Computer Science
🎮 Ph.D. in Googling Error Messages (honorary, but still)

If you're into tech career growth, team dynamics, or just want real talk about working in this industry, you’re in the right place.

You can also check out my other blog over at nicholasmullins.com for more personal posts that aren’t as career-focused.

Thanks for stopping by. Seriously.
Even if you just skimmed.
I get it. I skim too.
